Naturally Aspirated LS Oztrack Camshaft Results Using DPE Exhaust Systems
At Oztrack, we have tested a large number of naturally aspirated LS 6L and 6.2L combinations on our Mainline Prohub dyno using DPE exhaust systems. The results below are filtered to naturally aspirated combinations only, with supercharged setups excluded.
These results give a realistic guide to how different camshaft packages perform in real customer vehicles, on the same dyno.

What These Results Show
FE Camshaft
The FE best fuel economy cam.
- calm idle
- Excellent torque from low rpm
- Lower power than the other cams but still a solid amount better than stock
DR Camshaft
The DR is minimally choppy cam – entry level cam.
- minimally choppy idle, can be calm in drive in automatics.
- Excellent torque
- More power than FE
HP1 Camshaft
The HP1 is one of the most popular street camshafts. It and the HP3.
- Choppy idle calmer than HP3.
- Excellent torque
- Good drivability
- Works well with stock converters in many combinations
- Proven in a large number of customer cars
HP3 Camshaft
The HP3 remains one of the most popular street camshafts.
- Strong average power
- Excellent torque
- Good drivability
- Works well with stock converters in many combinations
- Proven in a large number of customer cars
HP9 Camshaft
The HP9 is another very popular choice for customers wanting more top-end performance while still retaining good street manners. A little more power than HP3. More Torque at peak than the Hp3.
HPS Camshaft
The HPS combinations produced some of the strongest naturally aspirated average results in this group. It is the biggest cam that will fit in a stock pistons LS 6L or 6.2L
These setups suit customers chasing stronger midrange and top-end power while retaining naturally aspirated reliability.
HP7-R and HPX-R
The HP7-R and HPX-R combinations represent more aggressive race-style naturally aspirated setups.
The HP7-R combinations averaged:
- 433 rwkW
- 685 Nm
with peak results up to:
- 442 rwkW
- 698 Nm
These are serious naturally aspirated combinations requiring supporting modifications and are not typical mild street packages.
We also have a range of new Supercharger cams, ask us for details
Why Real Dyno Data Matters
At Oztrack, we believe real-world dyno data is important when choosing a camshaft package.
Many advertised power figures online:
- are engine dyno numbers
- use correction tricks
- use unrealistic conditions
- or are not backed by repeatable testing
These figures above are based on:
- real customer cars
- Mainline Prohub dyno testing
- complete vehicle combinations
- repeatable results
Choosing the Right Camshaft
The best camshaft depends on:
- how the car is used
- converter choice
- gearing
- compression ratio
- cylinder heads
- intake manifold
- exhaust system
- fuel type
A larger camshaft does not always make the car faster or more enjoyable to drive.
At Oztrack we can help recommend a combination to suit:
- street driving
- circuit racing
- drag racing
- towing
- weekend performance use
More Than Just Duration Numbers
Two camshafts with identical advertised duration can behave completely differently.
Lobe shape influences:
- how quickly the valve opens and closed
- how long the valve stays near peak lift
- how stable the valve train remains at high RPM
- how long the springs last before they need replacing. It isn’t just lift, it is ramp rates.
