Oztrack Camshafts for LS Engines

Since 2000, enthusiasts have recognized that swapping the camshaft in any LS engine dramatically transforms its performance. Changing the cam is one of the most impactful modifications you can make to an LS engine.

Oztrack’s camshafts are proudly designed and manufactured in Australia, utilizing state-of-the-art CNC cam grinding technology. Oztrack cams feature advanced lobe shapes and specifications. Because of the lobe shapes, they compete with and often surpass brands like VCM cams and Brian Tooley Racing (BTR) cams. We leverage advanced tools like Dynomation 6 and Engine Analyser Pro to craft our cam profiles. Since 2011, we have fine-tuned and tested camshafts on the dyno, ensuring top-tier performance.

Factory LS1 Camshaft

The stock LS1 camshaft is relatively mild, designed for a balance of power, drivability, and emissions compliance. Below are the specifications:

  • Duration (at 0.050″ lift):
    • Intake: ~198°
    • Exhaust: ~209°
  • Lobe Separation Angle (LSA): 116°
  • Lift (with 1.7 rocker arms):
    • Intake: ~0.500″ (12.7 mm)
    • Exhaust: ~0.500″ (12.7 mm)
  • Intake Centerline: 114°
  • Exhaust Centerline: 118°
  • Overlap: Approximately -2°

These specifications provide a wide powerband. They also ensure a smooth idle and strong low-end torque. This makes the LS1 camshaft perfect for vehicles like the Holden Commodore, Chevrolet Corvette, and Pontiac GTO.

Oztrack LS1 Cam Recommendations:

  • FE Cam: Prioritizes low-end torque and fuel economy while maintaining a near-stock idle.
  • LSV Cam: Provides more power than the FE, with a slightly choppier idle, but sacrifices torque below 2000 RPM.
  • HP1 Cam: The most popular choice for LS1 engines. Offers a choppy idle, higher power output, and compatibility with the stock stall converter.
  • HP3 and HP9 Cams: More aggressive options with a lumpy idle, suited for non-automatic vehicles.
  • GT Cam: The ultimate cam for stock pistons, frequently achieving over 300 rwkw in manual LS1 setups.

Factory LS2 Camshaft

The LS2 camshaft improves on the LS1’s design. It has slightly more aggressive specifications. This enhancement takes advantage of the LS2’s larger displacement

  • Duration (at 0.050″ lift):
    • Intake: ~204°
    • Exhaust: ~211°
  • Lobe Separation Angle (LSA): 116°
  • Lift (with 1.7 rocker arms):
    • Intake: ~0.525″ (13.33 mm)
    • Exhaust: ~0.525″ (13.33 mm)
  • Overlap: Approximately -1°

Oztrack 6L LS2 and 6L L98 Cam Recommendations:

  • FE Cam: Prioritizes low-end torque and smooth idle.
  • LSV Cam: Offers a slight idle chop and more power but reduces torque under 2000 RPM.
  • HP1 Cam: Popular for LS2/L98 engines, with a choppy idle and compatibility with stock stall converters.
  • HP3 and HP9 Cams are extreme options for the 6L80 6-speed automatic transmissions. The HP3 is the largest cam that works well with the stock torque converter
  • HPS Cam: A top-tier cam for manual vehicles, enabling over 345 rwkw in 6L engines and 355 rwkw in LS3 setups.

Factory L98 Camshaft

The L98 camshaft closely resembles the LS2 cam, designed for non-AFM applications:

  • Duration (at 0.050″ lift):
    • Intake: ~204°
    • Exhaust: ~211°
  • Lobe Separation Angle (LSA): 116°
  • Lift (with 1.7 rocker arms):
    • Intake: ~0.510″ (12.95 mm)
    • Exhaust: ~0.510″ (12.95 mm)
  • Overlap: Approximately 0°

Factory L76 and L77 Camshafts

The L76 and L77 camshafts cater to engines with Active Fuel Management (AFM), leading to less aggressive profiles:

L76 Specifications:

  • Duration (at 0.050″ lift):
    • Intake: ~200°
    • Exhaust: ~208°
  • Lift:
    • Intake: ~0.492″ (12.5 mm)
    • Exhaust: ~0.500″ (12.7 mm)
  • Overlap: Approximately -2°

L77 Specifications:

  • Duration (at 0.050″ lift):
    • Intake: ~196°
    • Exhaust: ~201°
  • Lift:
    • Intake: ~0.492″ (12.5 mm)
    • Exhaust: ~0.492″ (12.5 mm)
  • Overlap: Approximately -6°

Oztrack L76 and L77 Cam Recommendations:

  • FE Cam: Enhances low-end torque and fuel efficiency.
  • LSV Cam: Delivers increased power with a choppy idle, but reduces torque under 2000 RPM.
  • HP1 Cam: A versatile choice compatible with 4-speed autos and stock stall converters.
  • HP3 and HP9 Cams: Aggressive cams for 6-speed automatics, with HP9 being a popular choice for LSA setups.
  • HPS Cam: The pinnacle of performance for manual cars, achieving impressive results in high-boost applications.

Factory LS3 Camshaft

The LS3 camshaft is more aggressive than earlier models. It is designed for the LS3’s larger engine size and high-flow heads

  • Duration (at 0.050″ lift):
    • Intake: ~204°
    • Exhaust: ~211°
  • Lobe Separation Angle (LSA): 117°
  • Lift (with 1.7 rocker arms):
    • Intake: ~0.551″ (14.0 mm)
    • Exhaust: ~0.525″ (13.33 mm)
  • Overlap: Approximately -2°

Oztrack LS3 Cam Recommendations:

  • FE Cam: Ideal for smooth idle and fuel efficiency.
  • LSV Cam: Provides increased power with a slight idle chop.
  • HP1 Cam: A balanced option with a choppy idle and increased performance.
  • HP3 and HP9 Cams: Aggressive profiles for advanced setups.
  • HPS Cam: Consistently delivers over 355 rwkw in manual configurations.

The LSA camshaft is tailored for supercharged engines, balancing power and drivability:

    • Exhaust: ~216°
  • Lobe Separation Angle (LSA): 120°
  • Lift (with 1.7 rocker arms):
    • Intake: ~0.480″ (12.2 mm)
    • Exhaust: ~0.480″ (12.2 mm)
  • Overlap: Approximately -4°

Oztrack LSA Cam Recommendations:

  • LSV Cam: Offers moderate power increases with a slightly choppy idle.
  • HP1 Cam: Provides improved performance with a choppy idle.
  • HP3 and HP9 Cams: Aggressive cams, with HP9 being the most popular for LSA setups, capable of nearly 480 rwkw in high-boost applications.
  • HPS Cam: A top-tier option achieving over 500 rwkw in LSA engines, with exceptional results in manual configurations.
