Complete LS Camshaft Upgrade and ProHub Dyno Tune

Oztrack selects the camshaft around your engine, transmission, converter, diff ratio, current modifications, driving style and power goal.

Our Penrith team installs the complete package in-house before calibrating and testing the vehicle on the Mainline ProHub dyno. LS1, LS2, L98, L76, L77, LS3 and LSA combinations are supported.

What the camshaft upgrade includes

The package combines the camshaft, supporting valvetrain parts, installation and calibration in one workshop. Parts can change with the engine family, selected cam and vehicle condition.

LS1, LS2, LS3, L98, L76, L77 and LSA packages

Camshaft choice changes with engine capacity, cylinder heads, compression, transmission, converter, exhaust, intake and intended use. A daily-driven automatic needs a different combination from a manual weekend car or a high-RPM engine build.

Ricky’s VF 6.0-litre automatic

The combination uses an Oztrack HP3 camshaft, performance exhaust, VCM OTR and custom dyno calibration.

It recorded 341.3 rwkW at 6334 rpm and 560.4 Nm of dyno torque at 5419 rpm. We matched the camshaft and calibration to the six-speed automatic transmission and intended street use.

How the camshaft upgrade works

1. ConsultationWe discuss the engine, gearbox, current modifications, driving style and power target.
2. Vehicle inspectionWe identify issues that should be addressed before the installation begins.
3. InstallationOur team installs the camshaft, valvetrain components, gaskets and supporting parts.
4. ProHub tuningWe calibrate fuel, ignition, idle, torque control and transmission behaviour where applicable.
5. Road testingWe check cold start, idle, part-throttle behaviour, driveability and fault codes.
6. Collection and supportWe explain the finished combination, dyno result and future maintenance requirements.

Cam choice, piston clearance and supporting upgrades

Larger is not automatically better. Oztrack checks the intended RPM range, piston clearance, valvetrain and complete vehicle before confirming an aggressive profile.

GT cam

A cathedral-port LS1/LS2-specific profile. It can work with factory pistons when cylinder heads have not been shaved, subject to measured piston-to-valve clearance.

GTX-R and HPX-R

These profiles require suitable aftermarket pistons with valve reliefs or correctly machined flycuts in factory pistons. Clearance must be measured during assembly.

Optional upgrades

Options can include VCM OTR, quality exhaust, rocker-trunnion components, Powerbond underdrive balancer, cylinder heads and intake-manifold upgrades.

Cylinder-head condition and valve-seat risk

Engines with high kilometres, overheating history or signs of cylinder-head trouble may need further inspection before a cam package is installed.

Oztrack can supply CNC-ported factory-style or aftermarket heads. Where suitable, replacement ductile-iron valve seats can reduce the risk associated with a loose or dropped factory seat.

Which camshaft is best for my LS engine?
The right choice depends on engine size, cylinder heads, compression, gearbox, converter, diff ratio, exhaust, intake and how you use the vehicle. Oztrack confirms the cam after reviewing the complete combination.
Does an automatic need a different camshaft?
Often, yes. Duration and torque characteristics need to suit the automatic transmission and converter. The transmission calibration must also work with the new engine behaviour.
Do L76 and L77 engines need an AFM/DOD delete?
A conventional performance-cam installation normally replaces the AFM lifters and related hardware with suitable non-AFM components. The ECU calibration must also be changed.
Do I need an exhaust and OTR intake?
They are not compulsory for every package, but intake and exhaust flow affect the result. Oztrack can recommend supporting parts based on the vehicle and goal.
How much power will my car make?
Results vary with engine condition, capacity, compression, heads, cam choice, intake, exhaust, transmission, fuel and dyno conditions. We use the Mainline ProHub to measure the finished combination rather than promise one number for every car.
Can Oztrack supply cylinder heads with the package?
Yes. Options include CNC-ported factory-style heads and supported aftermarket heads. We recommend the option after checking the engine, cam, power goal and budget.
Where is the work completed?
Installation and dyno tuning are completed at Oztrack Engineering & Tuning, 8/28 Coombes Drive, Penrith NSW 2750.
